I still vividly remember my own favourite Children’s Day back in late 70s early 80s. when I was about six or seven. My dad was on a business trip to HK and came back with a red canvas-and-leather vintage school backpack made in the Japan. Everyone else had single-strap school bags—but me? I was rocking a double-strap, ahead of my time😅
Back then, that bag was considered luxurious. Kind of like how kids today walk into school sporting Hermès, a Goyard Saint Louis Tote, or a Louis Vuitton backpack. In places like London, Manhattan, Beverly Hills, or the Hamptons, these brands aren’t just about utility—they’re signals of status, family wealth, and social identity.
Times change, and so do our values. These days, I find myself loving my well-worn black Sotheby’s tote bag—a freebie! It’s light, functional, and perfect for quick grocery runs with just my phone and keys. Of course, when meeting clients or going out, I still believe in dressing with respect—for myself and for the occasion.
Over the years, I taught the children of global elites:
- 🇨🇳 The son of the former Chinese owner of French crystal brand Baccarat (2019, Knightsbridge, London)
- 🇷🇺 The grandson of Dmitry Russian former art oil painting owner of Salvator Mundi by Da Vinci (2023, South of France)
- 🇭🇰🇫🇷 The French-Cantonese son of a Dutch bank executive healthcare M&A director family ( 2020, London)
- 🇷🇺🇮🇹 The son of Russian Standard Vodka’s Tariko (2015 Sardinia , Italy)
- 🇺🇸🇨🇳 The son of the self-made American Chinese billionaire , the founder of Scale AI second residence in the UK , 2024.
These are such precious memories for me. Once their Mandarin teacher, always a part of their story.
It reminds me how deeply personal transitions can be—whether it’s a child’s first school bag or a woman’s new beginning in a foreign city. From the classrooms of Knightsbridge to homes across South of France and Chelsea, I’ve worked closely with families navigating legacy, identity, and change.
